The images were taken with a 16 X 20 camera I built while completing my BFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. I used darkroom paper for negatives and contact printed to the same paper. At the time I was obsessed with exploring collaboration - the desire to address my role in the process of image making. The lens used did not have a shutter. The images were made in total darkness with strobes, most of which were controlled by the sitter; I prepared the camera, arranged the sitter for focus, and allowed them to fire when they were ready.
